Best multi day meals on Te Araroa trail
For the long haul sections of the TA trail you need to plan ahead if you want to eat well. While there are not many sections over 6 to 8 days before you cross a main road or pass some sort of civilisation, many of these crossing points particularly in the South Island have no shops, meaning that you either have to break your journey and hitch a ride into the nearest town or pre-arrange a food drop. This not only means lots of advance planning, but it also means that you need to be sure that the food you pack weeks ahead, is still going to be the food you still like after weeks on the trail. So stick to what you old time favourites.
Having done quite a lot of multi day tramping means that I already had my favourites. My advice is to stick to what you know and love, and avoid the temptation of including new meals just for variety.
Here are some of favourite multi-day recipes:
- Coconut Vegetable Korma
- Sun dried Tomato Pasta
- Beef Minestrone
- Pumpkin and Lentils
